Microsoft possibly working on a new portable device
The Windows Phone is dead — that’s what we have been hearing for a considerable amount of time. However, the world of technology is full of rumours about a new mobile device from Redmond giant’s labs, rumoured to be called the Surface Phone. And now, it seems that one of Microsoft’s eggheads has casually hinted at the possibility of such a device under works.
In an interview cum industrial tour with The Verge, Ralf Groene, head of industrial design at Microsoft, has hinted at the possibility of a Microsoft phone under the wraps. During the industrial tour, Ralf was asked whether Microsoft is considering a new phone, to which he replied, “Who knows?”
In the last few months, we have seen Microsoft officially confirming the failure of Windows 10 Mobile, losing out to Android and iOS. Microsoft is in fact actively promoting its apps and services on other platforms as well as selling certain Android flagship devices from its stores. However, they have lately addressed their attention towards making quality computer devices, improving on the likes of Surface laptops and tablets. Moreover, we have also seen several leaks showing the Windows 10 CShell — a version of Windows 10 that can be accommodated on both laptops as well as tablet form factors.
Therefore, it might be possible that Microsoft is actually working on a device aimed at enterprise consumers instead of the mainstream smartphone market. It might be a while before we see the rumoured Surface Phone surfacing (get the pun?) before the world.
