Twitter developing Snapchat-style tool for video sharing

The social media company already has a working demo of the camera-centred product, Bloomberg reported.

Twitter Inc is working on a Snapchat-style tool that makes it simpler for users to post videos on its app, Bloomberg reported on January 25, citing people familiar with the matter. The social media company already has a working demo of the camera-centred product, Bloomberg reported, citing people who have seen it.

However, a working demo for the feature reportedly exists. The design, as well as the timing of the product’s launch, has not been settled upon and the tool could go through significant changes over the next few months, according to Bloomberg.

Twitter declined to comment on the report. Shares of the San Francisco-based company were up about 1 percent in early trading.

Besides, Facebook too had implemented a similar feature in both its flagship product and Instagram back in 2016, in a move that surpassed Snapchat's biggest competitive advantage, but was a successful gain for Facebook. The same year, CEO Jack Dorsey called Twitter's experience as "confusing" in an interview, commending Snapchat on "recognising that we are going to press buttons less and gesture more."
