Microsoft makes your Windows 10 PC and Android phone one entity

The latest developer preview build of Windows 10 adds Apple-like Continuity to these two platforms.

These days, esteemed software developers like Apple and Microsoft are working hard to unite all platforms to make a connected platform. Apple had achieved it a long time ago on its ecosystem as it didn’t have to deal with compatibility issues between different platforms. However, no one had thought of other popular operating systems like Microsoft’s Windows and Google’s Android connected, until now. Microsoft is interested in integrating its Windows 10 with both Android and iOS.

The latest developer preview build 16251 in the “Fast Ring” of Windows 10 brings in the continued-web browsing feature for Android devices as of now. Microsoft unveiled this feature at this year’s developer conference by the name of “Pickup Where I Left Of” (PWILO). Users should know that this feature was slated to be available for Microsoft apps, although the support for all apps could be rolled out by the final rollout.

Those who are enrolled for the fastest Windows 10 updates can go to Settings > Phone and link your phone, after installing the new build on the PC. Users will receive an SMS from Microsoft post linking to install a test app called Microsoft Apps for Android that completes the link between the phone and PC.

Once the setup is done, all the users have to do is tap on the share button of the browser and select the Continue on PC option. If the user selects Continue now option, then the link will be opened on your Windows 10 PC. The Continue later option puts the link of the website in the Action Centre, which can be opened later. Microsoft says that both the PC and the Android smartphone will have to be linked to a common Microsoft account.

With this feature becoming a reality, users will have a good reason to upgrade to Windows 10. Although this feature is available right now on Android, Microsoft will release the feature for Apple’s iOS within a few days.
