Xiaomi's Mi MIX 2S to replace Mi 7 flagship at MWC 2018: Report

Xiaomi is reportedly working on refreshing their last year's flagship Mi MIX 2 with a Surge S2 SoC.

Xiaomi fans have been eagerly looking forward to the MWC Barcelona 2018, which is expected to start the beginning of flagship smartphone for 2018. Some reports have been suggesting the launch of the Mi 7 flagship smartphone at the event, which is expected to debut with Snapdragon 845 chipset. However, latest leaks from Weibo suggest that Xiaomi might be ditching the Mi 7 launch completely.

The Xiaomi Mi 7 is now expected to not show up at the MWC 2018 and might see a launch date pretty close to the market launch of the yet-to-be-unveiled Galaxy S9 from Samsung. Instead, the source hints towards Xiaomi unveiling an updated version of their last year’s flagship Mi MIX 2 — the Mi MIX 2S. This smartphone will, however, isn’t expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 845 chipset. Instead, Xiaomi could take the opportunity to unveil their Surge S2 before the world.

The information isn’t completely confirmed, which is why you should take it with a pinch of salt. However, if this rumour becomes a reality, then the Surge S2 could be a flagship-class chipset with specifications that could rival Samsung’s Exynos 9000 series chipsets. With the Surge S2, Xiaomi could be bumping up the Mi MIX 2’s performance by huge margins and could achieve benchmark scores that rival flagship chipsets from other OEMs.
