Xiaomi Mi A2 hitting Indian shores on August 8
After being announced in Madrid on the 24th of July, the next question on people’s minds on our shores was when it would launch in India. A tweet my Xiaomi’s global vice president, Manu Jain revealed the date and for those who have missed it, Amazon India has put up a special page on its website confirming the August 8 launch date. And, for those interested in purchasing this handset, there is also a ‘Notify Me’ option.
Last month, Xiaomi had finally launched the second generation of its Android One smartphone — Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite. As of now, it appears that the only model that will be coming to India is the Mi A2 and not the Lite version of the handset. The Mi A2 is the successor to the Mi A1, launched last year in India as the first Android One smartphone from Xiaomi.
The Mi A2 flaunts a 5.99-inch 18:9 display with 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass for protection. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 660 chipset aided by up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo and is backed by a 3010mAh, with support for QuickCharge 3.0.
The biggest USP of the device is its AI-powered cameras. The Mi A2 features a dual rear camera system, that comprises of a 12MP Sony IMX486 sensor with a f/1.75 aperture and a 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor with the same aperture along with dual-tone LED flash. For selfies, the handset sports a 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor with f/1.75 aperture assisted by a soft LED flash.
As of now, prices are yet unavailable and more should be revealed closer to the launch date.
