Resale value comparison between OnePlus 5T and Hoor View 10 after 3 months

The arch rivals of the affordable flagship smartphone category may lock horns in performance but differ in market value.

Since OnePlus launched the 5T in November 2017, the premium smartphone has been one of our favourites in the Android universe. And why not? It offers flagship class specifications with flagship class performance for the price of a premium midrange smartphone from the established brands. However, arch-rival Huawei’s Honor had come up with a deadly answer to OnePlus’ flagship offering early this year in the form of the View 10.

The View 10 features Huawei’s latest custom-built Kirin 970 chipset with a neural processing unit built-in. Like the OnePlus 5T, it features a modern 18:9 display and comes with the latest version of Android. It also features a set of capable cameras and a premium body. Therefore, the competition between these two rivals is an intense one when it comes to performance and specifications. But, what about the value of both of these?

Both these smartphones are positioned in a price category that sees users frequently upgrading to the new model within the course of a few months to a year. Therefore, despite the performance potential and aesthetics, it’s important to know which one of these holds better value once they are taken out of the showroom.

The most expensive version of the OnePlus 5T retails in India presently for Rs 37,999 whereas the Honor View 10 can be yours for Rs 29,999. Note that both the prices are indicative of the top-end variants. For checking the market value of both of these in a used state, we went on Sahivalue.com — a website that helps consumers sell their smartphones, tablets and computers for the right price.

Resale value of OnePlus 5T in March 2018

OnePlus 5T Lava Red

The top-end variant of the OnePlus 5T will currently fetch its owners an amount of Rs 31,500. Note that the condition of the smartphone was selected to be in mint condition with no damage signs and performance issues. The price includes the presence of the charger, bill, box and the USB cable. The more usage signs your phone shows, the value of the phone will decrease.

A well-maintained sample of the lower-end OnePlus 5T with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, which presently retails in the market for Rs 32,999, can be sold for Rs 27,500.

Resale value of Honor View 10 in March 2018

Honor View 10

A well-maintained sample of the Honor View 10 can fetch its buyer a sum of Rs 20,500. Since the View 10 only has one variant, there’s no other price for this one.

What do we deduce?

The OnePlus 5T manages to hold its value better than the Honor View 10. The top-end 128GB variant has only lost Rs 6,500 in value whereas the lower-end 64GB variant has only lost Rs 5,499. On the other hand, the Honor View 10 has lost a staggering Rs 9,499 in value, which is bad for a smartphone launched two months ago. Therefore, if you are looking to buy an affordable flagship and plan to flip it for another one within a short time, then the OnePlus 5T is a better option.

What could have made this happen?

The OnePlus 5T is a culmination of various user inputs over the years. Despite sporting flagship specifications such as a Snapdragon 835 chipset along with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, the near-stock Oxygen OS has been tailor-made to boost performance in casual usage scenarios. The OnePlus 5T is a preferred choice for geeks who prefer a no-nonsense approach to Android without being barebone-stock. While the Honor View 10 houses equally capable, if not better, internals, it fails to appeal to pure Android enthusiasts with a clumsy user interface and Honor’s legacy of rolling out the latest Android updates after several months.
