Apple iPhone 11 to kill off legacy feature which could anger power users

After the inclusion of a bigger camera bump and Dual Bluetooth Audio; this iPhone feature may not please some ardent iPhone fans.

Apple is sure to announce the next iPhone by September 2019 and with it, the Cupertino-based brand will be introducing some interesting new features. However, while the brand is set to add a few new features, it appears that one fan favourite legacy feature will be removed with the upcoming iPhone.

As per a report by MacRumors, Apple will be removing the 3D Touch and with it, this popular feature will now be eliminated from future devices starting with the iPhone 11. This information which has been obtained from sources close to Apple’s supply chain in China is going to be quite a huge blow to iPhone power users, in particular. This pressure-sensitive technology used by Apple is way better and superior to that found on Apple’s Android rivals. This is because of Apple’s dedicated Taptic Engine and the 3D Touch integration in iOS that helps with a lot of time-saving shortcuts.

With the launch of the iPhone XR, Apple already replaced 3D Touch with Haptic Touch in order to achieve the near bezel-less LCD display on the device. With the iPhone XR being the first to come with Haptic Touch, it is quite possible that all future iOS devices will come with it.

As of now, it is quite unclear why Apple is ditching 3D Touch, a feature that has been present since the iPhone 6S as Apple has proved that it can utilize it even on the edge-to-edge OLED displays that are found on the iPhone XS and XS Max.

Haptic Touch isn’t as widely used on the iPhone XR as its uses are far more constrained than 3D Touch. With 3D Touch, its uses extend to flashlight and camera shortcuts on the lock screen, in Control Centre to view hidden features along with expanding of notifications. Haptic Touch, on the other hand, does not support Quick Actions or Peek and Pop for quickly previewing content.
