Analysts claim Galaxy S9 isn't doing good enough for Samsung

Analysts suggest that Samsung has been unable to sell enough Galaxy S9 units as last year's S8.

The Galaxy S9 needs no introduction. Samsung’s flagship smartphone for 2018 debuted with the latest and the greatest from Samsung in terms of hardware as well as software. However, fans of the Galaxy S series expected a refreshed design to keep them happy, along with certain standout features when compared to its rivals. While it garnered mixed reviews from the critics, it has not managed to gather healthy sales figures as well, according to analysts.

A group of analysts have suggested that Samsung hasn’t managed to sell enough units of the Galaxy S9 this year and the case might not change in the coming months. As reported by Reuters, the Galaxy S9 could lesser sales in its first year when compared to the Galaxy S8. The analysts couldn’t predict the exact reasons, but hinted towards the fact that the new S9 isn’t attractive enough for buyers to spend money on it. The Galaxy S9 looks almost identical to the S8, barring the colours and the new fingerprint sensor location.

The above-mentioned reason was also cited as the reason Samsung will go live with the Galaxy Note 9 earlier than expected. The Note 9 is also expected to be a slightly improved iteration of the Note 8. Samsung has focused on the S Pen on the new Note device in its first tease, thereby suggesting that the Note 9 could hide surprises under its sleeves. Leaks have also suggested that the S Pen could feature Bluetooth connectivity mated to new software features. However, analysts are very sure of the Note 9 doing wonders for Samsung’s cash registers too, unless Samsung has something revolutionary to unveil at the August 9 launch event.

That said, the Galaxy S9/S9+ is still one of the best flagship smartphones money can buy. The Samsung flagship is presently one of the first ones to debut a variable aperture camera along. It’s powered by an Exynos 9810 chip and runs on the latest version of Android Oreo. The Galaxy S9 starts at Rs 57,990 for the 64GB variant. Samsung is presently offering massive discounts on the S9 for Indian customers through its online store.
