iOS HomeKit bug makes smart locks vulnerable

Apple’s stint with security issues isn’t over yet, as the company now has another security concern to take care of. According to 9to5Mac, Apple HomeKit framework has a bug that allows unauthorised access to connected smart devices such as locks and garage door openers.

The company has addressed the issue and already put a fix in place to rectify the bug, but this also disables the remote access to shared users. The reduced functionality will be fixed with an iOS 11.2 update coming next week.

The report also opened up about the smart lights, thermostats and plugs vulnerable to unauthorized control. This issues is caused due to High Seirra bug that was discovered last month, which allowed users to gain administrator access without a password.

Since Apple has already pushed a server-side fix, users do not need to take any additional steps to secure their smart products.
