BlackBerry Priv won't get Android Oreo
BlackBerry is known for pushing out updates quickly to its devices but there are limits to what it can accomplish. Unfortunately for BlackBerry users will be facing these limitations. In an interview with UTB Blogs, Alex Thurber, BlackBerry Mobile Solutions General Manager confirmed that the BlackBerry Priv won’t be getting Android 8.0 Oreo, and the DTEK59 and DTEK60 might be on a similar boat.
BlackBerry said that it’s too difficult rope in the partners to push that big of an update. Although, the BlackBerry Priv did get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update last year, company’s experienced how hard a task it is to roll out update.
As for the DTEK smartphones, the company has a different reason. The smartphones were meant to be an experiment on how the collaboration between BlackBerry and TCL would go ahead. Based on the BlackBerry KEYone, it turned out great, says BlackBerry. So the company might abandon the DTEK, which is now practically being painted as a commercial concept device.
Although, BlackBerry will continue to support its phones with minor security updates, the fate of KEYone, which is made by TCL still remains in question.
