Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 to grace the Indian subcontinent

The phone could be priced lower than rival flagships with bezel-less display.

Earlier in the day (read here), Xiaomi unveiled its successor to the Mi Mix — the Mi Mix 2, with a handy form factor and flagship specifications. The original phone never made it to the Indian shores because of reasons that are only known to Xiaomi. However, with the Mi Mix 2, Xiaomi is ready to cater to the premium smartphone segment in India.

Xiaomi’s VP Manu Kumar Jain tweeted about making the Mi Mix 2 available in India. He hasn’t mentioned the exact timeframe but we expect the company to bring it here before Diwali so that they can pull in some good numbers on the log books.

The last premium smartphone from Xiaomi was the Mi 5, which came out in 2016 with flagship specifications such as Snapdragon 820, 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage. Its successor, the Mi 6, never made it to the Indian shores. The Mi Mix 2 then forms a perfect successor to the Mi 5 with its bezel-less design and flagship specifications.

In India, the Mi Mix 2 will directly compete with the likes of Samsung Galaxy S8, LG G6, the Apple iPhone X and Google’s next Pixel. What could set apart the Mi Mix 2 from others would be its pricing, which, if priced under the Rs 40,000 mark, will make it the most bang-for-buck smartphone. Watch this space for more updates on the Mi Mix 2 for India.
