September 10, 2019, marked another crazy day for Apple as it held its annual iPhone event and the sheer number of tech write-ups dedicated to the iPhone 11 lineup can be compared to a heavy downpour of rain that places like Mumbai are all too familiar with. As predicted, Apple unveiled its newest generation of iPhones which has been dubbed the iPhone 11. It can be argued that this year’s model is a tad bit appealing in comparison with last year’s option; however, it is still a bit tame when taking Android rivals into consideration. As far as iPhones are concerned, it is the most advanced iPhone to date; but, does it fold? Does it have 5G? In short, no. In fact, of course not. It’s Apple and once again they have taken a very cautious approach with their new models. Like every year, the iPhone lineup doesn’t come with innovative features but merely adding a tad bit more of tech to keep Apple fans tapped in its ecosystem. Okay, the iPhone does boast a professional-grade camera and we get a bunch of TV shows. But, is Apple really innovating?

The criticisms of Apple run higher this year and the tweets that surfaced after the event paint a very colourful picture.

There is more than a bit of fatigue when it comes to Apple launches with all these self- prophesying keynotes that claim to be disrupting the world of technology. A notable point of concern is that even the most die-hard Apple fans are losing interest in the products as time passes by. Like every year, there is a flare-up of excitement before the event followed by some witty sarcasm and then moving on to what will happen next year.

To put it colloquially, the iPhone unveiling can be compared to a dragon fruit season where every year, the new lineup of devices take advantage of the dragon fruit craze which flattens the effects of the seasonal flavour. This is the case with the iPhones and it can be compared with the seasonal fruit that comes into flavour for a single portion of the year and doesn’t boast of any innovation that Apple was once praised for.

As per a report by Forbes, “Fast Company's most innovative companies rankings put Apple at #17 earlier this year, where it once sat at the top spot and it only nabbed a spot in the top 20 thanks to its A12 processing chip. There is a constant and frequent reaction to Apple's annual iPhone event that is akin to Lucky Charms adding a new marshmallow to the mix. Tepid excitement with faux surprise followed by the realization that it really doesn't change a damn thing. It's really the same box it's been for years.”
