Forget iPhone 11 Pro; 2020 iPhone 12 leaks with breakthrough tech

Apple's iPhone 12 is already casting a huge shadow over the recently unveiled iPhone 11 Pro.

The lights are still dimming on the stage that introduced the iPhone 11 line up and rumours of the 2020 iPhone have already started seeping in at a rapid pace. With the next year’s iPhone, Apple will make a world of changes with its iPhone 12 and this will be the handset that’s actually worth waiting for and investing in.

To start off, the iPhone 12 will feature a design refresh and this leak has been detailed by none other than the world’s greatest Apple tipster, Ming-Chi Kuo. The analyst claims that Apple will be employing a fresh design on the 2020 iPhone and will effectively ditch the rectangle display and home button for the trendy edge-to-edge display with rounded corners and Face ID support. Kuo states that Apple will be launching an “all-new form factor design.”

As of now, this information is not yet known and they may shift to a boxy industrial design with flat edges like the iPad Pro. The camera bump could also get flushed with the rear and this would take us back to iPhones of old like the iPhone 5S.

In any case, the iPhone 11 Pro design already looks a bit outdated and by 2020 Apple will definitely need to refresh its design to keep up with the competition.

The design refresh will also come with new display sizes and this will be a stark change from anything we have seen in recent years. As of now, the iPhone lineup consists of the 5.8-inch iPhone 11 Pro, the 6.1-inch iPhone 11 and the 6.5-inch iPhone 11 Pro Max. The 2020 iPhones will switch to a compact 5.4-inch display and a super-sized 6.7-inch display. As of now, there isn’t any word on whether the 6.1-inch iPhone will stay the same or be done away with altogether.

These new screen sizes will please fans who want smaller handsets like the iPhone SE as well as those who want larger phablet-sized handsets.

The upcoming handsets will all come with an in-display fingerprint sensor in an all-new avatar. In 2017, the iPhone X killed off Touch ID and now Bloomberg states that both these biometric authentication systems will complement each other as Apple will offer both these features on the 2020 iPhones.

5G will finally make its way on to iPhones and the 2020 iPhone lineup will be the first to sport them. With iPhones now getting 5G, this will help usher in the standard in a way that’s never seen before.

Lastly, Apple will be finally making the switch from its Lightning port to USB Type-C. This widely used standard is reversible and capable of faster data output. The iPhone is one of the last Apple devices to make the change to Type-C ports as the iPad and MacBook already make use of it. With a new design and different screen sizes, this is the best time for Apple to shake things up with its charging port as well.
