Lenovo's upcoming Z5 smartphone to feature no bezel display

Lenovo' VP Chang Cheng confirms the upcoming Z5 smartphone to feature a no bezel display with 95 per cent screen-to-body ratio.

Ever since Apple has launched the iPhone X with no bezel display, which the tech giant calls it an ‘all-screen’ display, all the major contenders have chosen to blatantly adopt the same design element. However, the Essential is the one started this trend, which has the most minimal ‘notch’ compared to all the other smartphones including the controversial iPhone X’s ‘notch’. Regardless of how small the notch might be it still isn’t an all screen display. This barrier still exists until the Vivo Apex prototype has unveiled, which sported a no notch display with no bezels. But, still, that was a unique prototype with a pop-up camera on the top of the device and featured the first in-screen fingerprint scanner.

After Vivo, Lenovo is aiming to get that no bezel display with its upcoming Lenovo Z5. The company’s VP Chang Cheng has been teasing the latest Lenovo Z5 on Weibo, which appears to be featuring an all screen with no notch display. First spotted by CNET, Lenovo says that the Z5 has a 95 per cent screen-to-body-ratio. This claim technically beats the Xiaomi’s Mi Mix 2S, which has a 91.3 per cent screen-to-body ratio, which still has a small chin bezel design at the bottom to achieve that. According to the report, Lenovo has also released the sketch design of the Lenovo Z5, which also suggests the same design element, as stated earlier. The surprising element of this no notch bezel-less display is the front camera module, which according to the teasers cannot be seen. We can expect that the company might be implementing a new technology since the VP has already confirmed that the Z5’s design is achieved by using ‘four technological breakthroughs’ and ‘18 patented technologies,’ the report stated.

According to the teasers by Cheng, we can expect this new Z5 phone more likely to be the new flagship device and not a concept. We can expect the Z5 to be featuring an in-screen fingerprint sensor on the front, similar to Vivo X21 and Apex.

As stated earlier, Vivo Apex and Apple iPhone X, has achieved this almost no bezel design smartphones, where Vivo Apex used a pop-up camera module to make the no bezel display to happen, while Apple used the foldable OLED panel to achieve this design element.

Its good to see Lenovo who also owns Motorola, coming up with this new no bezel-less display, while its contenders like Oppo, Huawei and Vivo has been adopting the iPhone X-like notch.
