Good news Xiaomi fans! Your device will support Android Q
Existing Xiaomi users can beat the drum and paint the town red as Chinese electronics company Xiaomi has announced a list of eleven Xiaomi mobiles who will receive the next Google OS update of Android Q. The eleven listed smartphones will take part in the Android Q beta testing program; nine of them are scheduled for the fourth-quarter of 2019, while two more will get it between January and March 2020.
As per schedule, Xiaomi Mi 9, Xiaomi Mi 9 SE, Redmi K20, Redmi K20 Pro, Xiaomi Mi 8, Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition, Xiaomi Mi 8 Screen Fingerprint Edition, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, as well as Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 are expected to initiate their beta testing for Android Q in the fourth-quarter of 2019. The official update could possibly be released in the same quarter as the beta testing or during the first-quarter of 2020.
Next in order, the Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro duo will only begin their beta testing during the first-quarter of 2020. Although, it is possible that Xiaomi may bring and include other Xiaomi/Redmi smartphones into the existing list.
Recently, the Redmi K20 Pro appeared in the Android Q beta program with steps on how to install it and what bugs are expected, despite this, the briefing from China suggests specifically about the MIUI integration with the Android OS. Taking this into account, Xiaomi probably will not officially run the new Android OS until they have the Mi user interface ready.
Some of the new Android Q features include native support for foldable phones, new and improved UI customizations with changeable themes, icons and fonts (in Stock Android), dynamic depth format for photos, which allow changing background blur after taking a photo and better support for biometric authentication in apps.
