Xiaomi launches probe into Redmi Note 4 explosion
Xiaomi has launched an investigation following report over Redmi Note 4 explosion in an owner’s pocket in Ravulapalem, Andhra Pradesh.
“We take such matters seriously as customer safety is of utmost importance for Xiaomi. All of our devices go through stringent quality tests,” a Xiaomi spokesperson said in a statement.
Sakshi.com, a Telugu news website, identified Bhavana Suryakiran, a resident of Ravulapalem in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, as the victim of the incident. According to Suryakiran’s statement to the website, the phone burst into flames in his pocket while he was riding his bike. He told the website that the heat and flames made it difficult for him to remove the device immediately from his pocket. The explosion could not be doused despite locals’ efforts of pouring bucket full of water on his pants. In his response to the incident, Suryakiran added that he will move the court against Xiaomi for selling ‘defective unit’ as well as for compensation for injuries sustained.
“We have been able to establish contact with the customer and are in the process of procuring the damaged product to investigate the case carefully,” Xiaomi added.
