Samsung Galaxy S8 rumoured with large display, smaller body
New schematics of Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus leaked online showed the two smartphones will boast bigger screens than their predecessors, yet sticking to a compact design.
In the schematics surfaced by technology website GSMArena, the Galaxy S8 Plus measures 152.38 x 78.51 x 7.94mm. The smartphone is taller and wide compared to the Galaxy S7 Edge which measures 150.9 x 72.6 x 7.7mm in dimensions. According to GSMArena, the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus will feature about 6.3-inch display. The Galaxy S7 Edge model features a 5.5-inch display.
On the other hand, the Galaxy S8 will be smaller than the Galaxy S8 Plus. In the schematics Galaxy S8 measures 140.14 x 72.20 x 7.30mm. It will be slightly shorter and thinner than the Galaxy S7 smartphone which measures 142.4 x 69.6 x 7.9mm in dimensions. Based on the schematics, the Galaxy S8 will feature a 5.7-inch display (when not accounting the side curves).
Earlier 3D renders provided by the same website showed Galaxy S8 model will come without a home button and with two navigation button, menu and back, included within the screen. Samsung S series will continue to sport the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack, next to the USB 2.0 port.
A purported image of Samsung Galaxy S8 posted on Twitter on January 16 also supports the earlier reports adding credibility to the leaked schematics. The image of the smartphone was posted by a person named Veniamin Geskin, quoting ‘real image’ of the Samsung Galaxy S8.
The smartphone showcased in the image features a dual-edge display and small bezel at the top and bottom. Also, in the image the smartphone has no home button. It carries Samsung logo at the centre of the bottom bezel. The power/lock key of the phone is located on the right-hand side, while the volume buttons are placed on the left-hand side. The smartphone appears to come in metal and glass body.
In addition, previous reports suggest the adoption of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC paired with 6GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. The company is also expected to use its in house Exynos 9 series chip for European and other markets. The Galaxy S8 is also speculated to be the first smartphone to integrate Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging. The Galaxy S8 will also feature an AI voice-assistant, to be called Bixby.
Samsung is expected to release two variants of the smartphone, Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, in the April this year.
