OnePlus partners with DXO to develop OnePlus 5 camera

OnePlus ties up with DXO to work on the upcoming OnePlus 5's camera sensor, aims to beat the HTC 11 and Google Pixel.

Over the past few days, rumours surrounding the upcoming OnePlus 5 smartphone have been surfacing unlike anything else. One of the major speculated changes from the current OnePlus 3T is the inclusion of a dual-camera sensor on the rear. While that may not be true, OnePlus has hinted a possibility of that rumour to be true.

In a recent press release, the company has announced its partnership with DXO, the French software company that develops image processing software and maintains a website with technical measurements of lenses and cameras. DXO has ranked various smartphone cameras in the recent past, with the new HTC U11 topping the chart by scoring a DXOMark of 90. Last year’s Google Pixel scored a mark of 89.

“We’re happy to announce that we have teamed up with DxO to enhance your photography experience with our upcoming flagship, the OnePlus 5. DxO is perhaps most well-known for creating the defining photography benchmark, the DxOMark. They’ve got years of imaging experience and expertise, both for professional cameras and for smartphones,” stated OnePlus in its blog.

OnePlus intends to beat not only its rivals from the smartphone fraternity but professional DSLR cameras as well. By partnering with DXO, they can ensure that the OnePlus 5 can churn out great photographs consistently in varied lighting conditions.

The OnePlus 5 has been speculated to feature the 10nm Snapdragon 835 chipset along with 6GB of RAM. Rumours have also suggested the possibility of 8GB of RAM capacity on the new phone. The device will surely run Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, with OnePlus’ OxygenOS on top. Battery capacity could be higher than 3,000mAh, which could power the 5.5-inch full HD screen. OnePlus announced that the OnePlus 5 will debut this summer, possibly next month.
