The G4 Plus is now on the company’s list of Oreo licking smartphones, however with no firm date.

However, the company hasn’t mentioned anything about the standard moto G4 and moto G4 Play.

A few days ago, we talked about Motorola’s Android Oreo update schedule (read here) excluding some of the popular smartphones, including the whole moto G4 series, the moto E3 Power and moto E4 series. Since then, people on social media, particularly the fans of the brand and customers, have gone berserk with Motorola’s decision, accusing Moto of not delivering on their promise. However, Motorola has responded, with a promise to update the moto G4 Plus to Android Oreo.

The company wrote in one of its blogs that the Moto G series has been designed to get one major Android update in its lifecycle and the moto G4 Plus was no exception. However, since they had promised two Android updates for the Moto G4 Plus on the adverts, they will roll out the Android Oreo update for the moto G4 Plus. However, as this update was not a part of the official update schedule, it could take some time for the company to test and roll out the update.

The post reads -- "It's been brought to our attention that there were some errors in our marketing materials around Android O upgrades for moto G4 Plus. This was an oversight on our part and we apologize for this miscommunication. It's our general practice for the moto G family to get one major OS upgrade per device, but it's important to us we keep our promises, so in addition to the N upgrade it has already received, we will be upgrading moto G4 Plus to Android O."

However, the company hasn’t mentioned anything about the standard moto G4 and moto G4 Play. Since Motorola also mentioned the update plans for any moto G smartphone, it wouldn’t be wise to go for the series if timely Android updates for two years is all you are looking for.
