iPhone 5S could get iOS 12 support: Reports
Apple WWDC 2018 is scheduled on June 4 at the McEnery Convention Centre in San Jose, USA this year. The event where the company showcases developers the first glimpse of their new operating systems for all its product portfolio. This year, Apple is expected to preview their latest iOS 12 along with watchOS, TvOS and MacOS at the event. While we don't have any clue about what the expected new features and devices does that support the new OS, new evidence suggests that the most liked iPhone 5S could still get the latest iOS 12 after its initial release.
Apple has a history of officially abandoning the older models with every new iOS release – the iPhone 4s lost support with the debut of iOS 9, while iOS 10 release ditched the iPhone 5. And while many expected iOS 11 to do the same for iPhone 5s, but due to its 64-bit build architecture, the iPhone 5s is still running on iOS 11.3 and evidence suggests it most likely can even get the new iOS 12 update as well.

First spotted by MacGeneration, the cited source suggests a testing log of a WebKit building running on an iPhone 5s stimulator, which hints that the new iOS support is being considered to the older model as well. Though Apple is considering supporting iPhone 5S, the company might restrict the performance limitation as the latest software needs a newer hardware. The iPhone 5s was released in the fall of 2013 running on iOS 7, the 4-inch iPhone currently runs on iOS 11.4 beta 1. It is built on an A7 processor with 1GB of RAM and had storage options of 16, 32, and 64GB.
There are also rumours and reports suggesting that Apple might be releasing the newer and cheaper iPhone SE variant – the iPhone SE2. This cheaper variant of iPhone SE is expected to launch at WWDC running on an A10 Fusion chipset. The speculations also suggest that SE2 would be ditching the headphone jack and might support Qi wireless charging featuring a glass body build.
