Kirin 980 specs leaked, will come with a 2.8GHz octa-core CPU
After debuting the Kirin 970 SoC at last year’s IFA, it appears that Huawei will be readying to announce its successor, the Kirin 980 SoC at IFA 2018 trade show in Berlin this September. As per a report by GizmoChina, the Kirin 980 chipset has leaked and the maximum frequency of the Kirin 980 will be 2.8 GHz and the SoC will be built with 7nm process technology by TSMC.
The maximum clock speed is reported to be 2.8GHz for its top four Cortex-A77 cores for performance. It will have four additional Cortex-A55 cores for reliability. There have been rumours that Huawei will add its own graphics processor inside it. GizmoChina states that the performance of the Kirin 980 SoC is speculated to be 1.5 times better than the Adreno 630 that comes with the Snapdragon 845.
Additionally, there are rumours that it will include AI chip technology by Cambricorn which is expected to make the NPU smoother and is expected to deliver 5 trillion calculations per watt. The report goes on to state that smartphones powered by this SoC will come loaded with GPU Turbo graphics acceleration technology.
The first handsets that are expected to feature the Kirin 980 SoC are the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro which will launch later this year.
