Xiamoi teases world's first 64MP smartphone camera
After Samsung unveiled its new 64MP sensor in May, the first brand to spearhead a possible race for 64MP camera sensors was Xiaomi. The Chinese brand recently teased an upcoming smartphone to feature the sensor.
You can find the teasing post here.
Ahead of the industry entering the ‘era of 64MP sensors’, a post on Weibo reveals Xiaomi will launch a phone with the capabilities of taking 64 megapixel images, sizing up to around 20mb per image. The feature will most likely be a toggle though, since capturing 64MP images by default wouldn’t be either very feasible or very efficient.
The phone will also be able to use the Tetracell binding technology, combining four pixels into one during low light photography so as to capture more light in the photo. The phone will thus take yup to 16MP photos in low light.
The new sensor will also improve on auto-focussing and will enable real-time HDR allowing you to preview how HDR will look before taking the shot itself.
