Samsung has finally unveiled its much anticipated smartphone, the Galaxy Note 8 at an event in New York. The smartphone is much like the Galaxy S8 but with a bigger screen and the S-Pen.

Corroborating previous leaks, the Galaxy Note 8 comes with a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED quad HD display with 2960 x 1440 pixel resolution. The display is similar to the Galaxy S8 but in a less curvy form. The phablet will ship with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor for the US market, while other markets will get a device with Samsung’s Exynos octa core processor at its heart. The SoC will be backed by 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage with support for microSD card.

On the photography front, the Galaxy Note 8 boasts a dual camera setup with two 12MP sensors — one wide angle lens and one telephoto lens. The regular/wide-angle lens has an aperture of f/1.6, and the telephoto lens is f/2.4. For selfies, it has an 8MP front facing shooter with f/2.4 aperture. The camera app offers a ‘Dual Capture’ mode that stitches together photos from both cameras and saves them individually. The Galaxy Note 8 also features a fingerprint sensor besides the dual camera setup, similar to the one seen on the Galaxy S8.

The phablet runs on Android 7.1.1 with company’s UI on the top. The Galaxy Note 8 has a dedicated button for Samsung’s virtual voice assistant Bixby. The Edge also allows user to attach two apps that can be launched together in the split screen mode.

The S-Pen also has some fresh tricks up its sleeve; users can now take up to 100 pages of notes in the Screen Off Memo mode. There is a new Live Message that allows users to add animation to the text. It is similar to Apple’s iMessage, but it works with almost every messaging app. The translate feature allows users to translate highlighted sentences in 71 languages.

The Galaxy Note 8 draws power from a 3300mAh battery and is IP68 certified water and dust resistant. Connectivity on the smartphone includes NFC and MST for Samsung Pay, and offers USB Type-C charging port.

The price for the Galaxy Note 8 will be revealed by the mobile carriers. In India Amazon is one of the official partners to sell the device.
