MWC 2019: Xiaomi announces global variant of Mi 9 for Rs 37,173

Xiaomi introduces the Mi 9 with triple AI rear cameras, Snapdragon 855 and goes on sale on February 28.

Alongside the unveiling of the Mi Mix 3 5G and the Mi Light Bulb, Xiaomi showed off the recently unveiled Mi 9 on the global stage. The handset goes on sale in Spain, Italy and France with pre-orders starting from today with sales beginning on February 28. The 6GB/64GB variant is priced at EUR 449 which is about Rs 37,173 and the 6GB/128GB variant is priced at EUR 499 which is about Rs 40,200.

The design of the handset is pretty different from that currently available as it sports a finish that has a holographic illusion that’s protected by Gorilla Glass 5. While the handset comes with some great specs, the major features found here include a 48MP sensor on a triple camera configuration, a huge 90.7 screen-to-body ratio, Game Turbo technology, a Snapdragon 855 SoC and an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The Mi 9 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC that features an Adreno 640 GPU that’s paired with 6GB RAM alongside 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage. There is the Game Turbo technology found in the handset that will optimise the CPU and GPU to provide the best possible gaming experience.

The triple rear camera’s main highlight is a 48MP Sony IMX586 module with a Quad Bayer filter that features a ½-inch sensor with 0.8 µm pixels, which can be combined into 1.6µm Super pixels. Apart from the main sensor, the handset also sports a 16MP ultra-wide camera with a 117-degree field of view and lastly, it has a 12MP sensor with an F/2.2 aperture. Up front, the handset features a 20MP sensor that can also be used for face unlock in some regions. The camera is also protected by a sapphire glass lens cover.

The display used on the Mi 9 is 6.39-inches of the Super AMOLED variety that has an FHD+ resolution that’s protected by Gorilla Glass 6. As per the report, the Mi 9’s high brightness mode can reach up to 600 nits. There is a Dark Mode that is said to curb power usage by up to 83 per cent. The new Always-On display comes with support for colourful patterns.

The Xiaomi Mi 9’s other highlighted feature is its fast charging which the brand has termed as Charge Turbo and can deliver up to 27W through the USB Type-C port. While it does support 27W fast charging, Xiaomi has bundled an 18W charger in the packaging. To keep the device juiced up, the Mi 9 features a 3300mAh battery.
