JioPhone pre-bookings start today: everything you need to know

The pre-booking window for JioPhone will open at 5.30 pm today.

Pre-booking for the much-anticipated Reliance Jio 4G feature phone, JioPhone, will commence from today evening at 5.30pm with an initial deposit of Rs 500 apiece. The phone will then be released to the customers in September.

The procedure to book the model fairly easy – it can either be done offline through a text SMS to Reliance Jio or online through My Jio app or Jio’s official website jio.com.

On visiting Jio’s website, buyers are advised to click on ‘keep me posted’. The option will then shows a pop-up asking ‘Register Interest’ where a buyer will be required to submit details such as name, phone number and email ID. Alternatively, buyers can also place the order via Reliance Jio’s MyJio App.

Thos willing to place the order offline can register simply via a text message. In the text message, one would need to Type as JP <> your area pin code <> Jio store code near your area and send it on 702 11 702 11. A text message saying ‘Thank You’ will then be received in response, confirming buyer’s interest.   

Do not, all the pre-orders for the JioPhone will be accepted for Rs 500, which will be adjusted against security deposit of Rs 1,500 at the time of delivery. The amount was also mentioned during the time of launch as a one-time security deposit to avoid any misuse of the product. The amount will be refunded after 3 years on return of the phone.

"Our sales people will begin taking pre-bookings of the JioPhone for Rs 500 and will begin giving the phones when they arrive in September for an additional Rs 1,000," Subhash Chandra, the managing director of Sangeetha Mobiles told ET.

The phone will be distributed on a first-come-first served basis through retailer stores including multi-brand device retailers and Reliance Jio stores across the country. The company aims to have at least 5 million JioPhone units available on retail channels every week.

To recall, the JioPhone features a 2.4-inch QVGA display, FM radio, torch, headphone jack, SD card slot and an alphanumeric keyboard. It supports digital payment via NFC, 4G VoLTE calls and data and a suite of Jio apps, which includes Jio Cinema, Jio Music and more.
