Sony to focus on flagship smartphones
Many of Sony’s smartphones such as Xperia XZ have proved quite popular in certain regions. The firm’s upcoming flagships also look promising. Now, a new report suggests that the company plans on ditching some of its less popular lines or as the company describes it, “premium standard” smartphones.
According to XperiaMobile, Sony has confirmed that it will no longer offer this tier of devices. Smartphones that fall under the ‘premium standard’ tag are essentially lower-priced devices that still offer flagship specs in a different package. For example, Sony’s Xperia X and the Xperia X Compact. While the former offers lesser specs as the flagship, latter offers full flagship specs in a smaller body.
Sony is believed to be planning on focusing only on flagship devices from now on, for instance its Xperia XZ Premium which was announced at the MWC earlier this year. Meanwhile, the company will continue to offer mid-range devices such as Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra from this point forward.
