Shatterprrof Moto Z2 Force unveiled with dual camera

The successor to the Moto Z Force comes with updated specification, a 12MP dual camera and the Moto 360 camera mod.

In what comes as expected, Lenovo-led Motorola has unveiled the successor to its shatterproof Moto Z Force – the Moto Z2 Force, in the US. The new model has updated internals along with a dual camera sensor and an aluminium chassis. The Z2 Force will be available from $720 (approximately Rs 46,000).

Since this is a Motorola flagship, the Z2 Force is built around a 2.35GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. Users can choose between two variants – 4GB RAM along with 64GB of onboard storage and 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The smartphone comes with 2730mAh battery accompanied by a 15W TurboPower charger.

There’s a 12MP dual sensor camera with an aperture of f/2.0 along with a 5MP front camera. However, Motorola has gone the Huawei way for providing a monochrome sensor for the secondary camera unit, which means that we could be expecting highly-detailed photographs from the unit. The camera also has PDAF, laser autofocus and a dual-LED flash. There’s no mention of any kind of optical image stabilisation though.

However, the Moto Z2 Force’s party piece is its display – a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with 1440x2560 pixel resolution. The display has shatterproof protection, which means that consumers can forget to worry about cracked glasses in the event of a drop.

The Z2 Force provides an option of expandable 2TB storage. The smartphone comes with Bluetooth 4.2, although Motorola claims that the Android O update will update it to Bluetooth 5.0. It loses the 3.5mm headphone jack in favour of one USB Type-C port for plugging in headphones as well as the charger. It also gets support for Google's Daydream VR platform.

The Z2 Force will be available from the 10th of August in the United States. However, the company hasn’t spoken on the availability of the Z2 Force in India as of now.
