Sony announces new midrange Xperia R1 Plus, Xperia R1 in India

The Xperia R1 models will be catering to the midrange smartphone segment in India with 13MP camera and upcoming Android Oreo upgrade.

The midrange smartphone market is a busy segment, where all major manufacturers are battling it out with some of the most value-for-money smartphones. Sony, once an active player in this segment, has launched two new smartphones to gain some traction in the market. The smartphones are called Xperia R1 and Xperia R1 Plus.

Both the smartphones are essentially identical, with the only difference being the RAM and storage capacities. The Xperia R1 comes 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage whereas the Xperia R1 Plus comes 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

Apart from that, both of them comes with a 5.2-inch HD LCD display, they are powered by a  Snapdragon 430 chipset and are currently running on Android Nougat 7.0, although the company claims that will receive the Android Oreo update pretty soon. There’s a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and a 8MP front camera. both them are powered by a 2620mAh battery, which can be charged by a USB Type-C port.

The Xperia R1 comes in black and silver colours and will be priced at Rs 12,990. The Xperia R1 Plus also comes in black and white colours but will sell for Rs 14,990 in India. The smartphones will be available starting November 10.
