iPhone 8 Plus prone to bending: Report

The bigger iPhone 8 Plus has been found to bend under certain situations, with no signs of physical damage.

When Apple launched the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, the world welcomed the move from the iPhone’s classic form factor to a modern design. The iPhone finally adopted a larger display than before and was even available in a phablet-like form factor with a big 5.5-inch display. However, the bigger model also brought with itself a problem that changed the way manufacturers made smartphones — the bendgate scandal. The iPhone 6 Plus was found to bend under stress in scenarios such as shoving it in trouser pockets or throwing it in handbags. Apple rectified the issue with the updated iPhone 6s that used stronger materials for its construction. However, it seems Apple could be plagued by the same old problem once again if reports are to be believed.

A report by Softpedia has brought attention to bending iPhones once again. One of their member’s iPhone 8 Plus has been found to suffer from the same ‘bend issue’ as the iPhone 6 Plus. The iPhone 8 Plus was reported to be bent when the owner sat with the handset placed in the back pocket. The handset has since then adopted a curved form, with the glass still intact — no shatters yet. However, the owner claims that the smartphone is working perfectly without any issue. He even claims that the waterproof seals have been found to be intact and the display is working as it was before the bend occurred.

If you own an iPhone 8 Plus, don’t panic yet. The reported issue could be a one-off and could have taken place due to a manufacturing defect limited to this particular unit. Both the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are claimed to have a stronger construction than their previous iterations. Also, numerous durability tests on YouTube have shown that the iPhone 8 can handle more stress that it will ever encounter in the hands of consumers.

However, if you are still suspicious, it’s advisable to use a case or cover to protect the handset against any sort of damages.
