Apple's 6.1-inch LCD iPhone to feature 0.5mm bezels: Report

This iPhone will feature 3D sensing technology for Face ID and Animoji as well.

We know about rumours expecting Apple likely to produce three new iPhones – iPhone X, iPhone X Plus, and a lower-priced 6.1-inch iPhone, all of which are expected to release later this year. Now, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, shared new research notes that outline both new and existing predictions about these new iPhones.

An all-new 6.1-inch iPhone with an LCD display is rumoured to be produced by the company this year. This phone is likely to be assembled by Taiwanese manufacturers Pegatron, Foxconn, and Wistron with 60 per cent, 30 per cent, and 10 per cent allocation of EMS respectively. Apple will use Japan Display's six-inch Full Active LCDs that allow manufacturers to go for ultra-slim 0.5mm. This display will account for around 70 per cent of LCD panels for the 6.1-inch iPhone.

Coming to the design aesthetics of the new iPhone, it might be a nearly full screen design similar to the iPhone X from last year with no home button and a notch for TrueDepth sensors. This iPhone will feature 3D sensing technology for Face ID and Animoji as well. It is expected to be powered by 2850-2950mAh battery. Ming-Chi Kuo also shared the expected pricing of this new iPhone, which might be around $700-$800.

Previously, Kuo mentioned that this iPhone will include an aluminium frame with no 3D Touch feature, and will be housing 3GB of RAM along with a single lens camera instead of dual lens sensors in the rear. This might be a drawback since the existing iPhone 8s’ already have the above-mentioned features.

According to Kuo, the second-generation iPhone and iPhone X Plus will have an increased 4GB of RAM. The iPhone X Plus is also expected to have up to a 25 per cent larger battery capacity of 3300-3400mAh. These batteries in both the iPhones are likely to be in a L-shaped design, which can yield up to 10 per cent additional capacity compared to the existing iPhone X.
