Apple next iPhone to feature OLED display

Apple has asked its key display suppliers to increase the OLED display production by 2018.

Apple will likely unveil its next iPhone model sporting organic light-emitting displays (OLED) with better resolution than those offered by Samsung smartphones, according to a report by Wall Street Journal.

According to reports, Apple, at present, is testing over 10 prototypes, including an OLED display iPhone. Although, Apple is expected to unveil the OLED display prototype, analysts predict Apple might decide not to release the model by next year because it is one of more than 10 prototypes being considered.

The chances of Apple releasing OLED display iPhone are pretty low, but if Apple decides to release such a model, you could expect a higher price tag than usual. Analysts explain that OLED displays are thinner, lighter and allow for flexible design, but they could be expensive to produce, around $50 higher.

Apple has asked suppliers to increase the OLED display production. The Cupertino firm is likely to ask Samsung for most of its initial OLED needs but it wants LG Display, Japan Display and Sharp, Apple’s key display suppliers, to ramp up the production to have supplies for 2018, reported Wall Street Journal.
