Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 could be announced in December
Qualcomm is soon expected to launch its Snapdragon 845 processor which will grace the upcoming flagship smartphones. It will be the successor to Snapdragon 835 chipset which was announced in November last year.
According to a Weibo post, Qualcomm will be launching the next-gen processor sometime in December. The Weibo post also suggests that the company could announce the new SoC at Snapdragon Technology Summit held in Maui, Hawai from December 4 to December 8. Although, the invite didn’t reveal anything about the unveiling of Snapdragon, but Qualcomm is likely to announce something new at the event.
According to report from GizmoChina, the latest Snapdragon 845 could be manufactured using the Low Power Early (LPE) FinFET process and is also expected to feature four ARM Cortex-A75 cores and four ARM Cortex-A53 cores. Qualcomm is said to pair the SOC with Adreno 630 GPU for a performance boost. The new chipset is also optimised for augmented reality (AR) and virtual (VR) that are making their way to lot of smartphones.
If the reports are to be believed, the chipset will have upgraded Kryo cores and X20 connectivity modem that offers downlink speeds up to 1.2Gbps.
Samsung is also rumoured to grab the first batch of these processors for its Galaxy S9 and S9+. This could also affect other smartphone makers, considering other Android OEMs will have to wait to get the new processor on their flagships.
There were also reports that Xiaomi is planning to bring the Snapdragon 845 processor on its alleged Mi 7 smartphone as it will be launching before Samsung’s Galaxy S9.
