2018 Apple iPad Pro hands-on: The iPad just got smarter

Apple finally took off the wraps off its brand new iPad Pro. The new 2018 model brings in a major overhaul in the design department with a slimmer 5.9mm chassis and an iPhone XR-esque narrow-bezel display. Apple also introduced their reengineered A12X Bionic CPU which claims to handle 5 trillion operations in a second and can handle Augmented Reality tasks with ease. It also brings along a redesigned Apple Pencil that magnetically attaches to the iPad Pro. Available in two sizes, the new iPad Pro is claimed to be more powerful than most modern laptops. The 2018 iPad Pro gets a Liquid Retina 120Hz ProMotion LCD display with narrow bezels and curved corners. Apple uses the same pixel masking techniques they used on the iPhone XR.

The new iPad Pro is 5.9mm thin and features an iPhone 5S-esque edgy frame. Apple crafts the body out of recycled aluminium, thereby reducing environmental degradation.

iOS 12 brings iPhone XS-like gestures to the iPad and lets users multitask with up to two apps at once. The FaceID system on this one can detect faces in any orientation.

iPad Pro is the first Apple device to get a USB-C port. It can connect to cameras or computers easily and can even charge your iPhone with the USB-C to Lightning cable. Sadly, the headphone jack is gone.

The new Apple Pencil now magnetically straps on to the side of the iPad and can charge wirelessly. It has a touch button for providing shortcuts in various iPad apps. Also, users can tap on the iPad Pro to open the Notes app without hunting for it.

The A12X Bionic has been tuned for accelerating augmented reality apps, making for novel in-depth experiences.

The iPad Pro will also be able to run the full version of Adobe Photoshop and AutoCAD. These apps have been optimised for the iPad Pro to take advantage of the touch screen interface.

The USB-C port makes it easy for professionals to connect the iPad to bigger displays. Seen here is an artist showing his work live on a secondary display via the USB-C port.

The 11-inch iPad Pro starts at Rs 71,900 for the Wi-Fi only model while the Wi-Fi + Cellular variant will retail for Rs 85,900. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro’s price will start at Rs 89,900 for the Wi-Fi version and the Wi-Fi + Cellular version will start at Rs 1,03,900. The second generation Apple Pencil was announced as well and it will cost Rs 10,900. Apple introduced a new Smart Keyboard Folio at the event which complements the new iPad Pro models and the Space Grey 11-inch version costs Rs 15,900 while the 12.9-inch version is priced at Rs 17,900.
