Overwatch, the next big shooter
Overwatch is an amazing multiplayer only experience with some of the most well designed characters and classes.
Some call it a Team Fortress clone, while others hail it as one of the greatest games to launch in recent times. Hate it or love it, you sure can’t ignore Overwatch.
Blizzard’s new IP has rocked the FPS world with a majorly successful beta followed by a stable launch that has left gamers hooked. The objective based FPS has smashed its competition in the genre with its fast and exciting gameplay backed by some amazing characters and classes.
Overwatch was initially compared to MOBA’s due to its heavy emphasis on objectives and character abilities, however that’s where the similarities end because there’s no levelling up, items and the fact that you can change characters in the middle of a match. That’s where the beauty of Overwatch lies, the ability to change your team composition to suit the situation; you can quickly jump into a role your team needs.
Each of Overwatch’s characters are so well made from character design to backstory and gameplay; all of them are distinct characters that fit into a broad role. While a few characters do feel slightly overpowered; be it Bastion’s turret mode or Soldier 76’s basic attack and auto lock ultimate, they can easily be countered with the likes of Tracer, Widowmaker and Reinhardt if you play smart.
In terms of maps and modes Overwatch will take you across the globe with its 12 maps. The game offers Assault, Control, Escort and Hybrid game modes with the last being a mixture of capture and escort. So while getting kills is definitely still important, a solid support like Zarya with her shields or Mercy with her healing and revives can make or break a game. You can go a few hours before hitting the same map again if you stick with the same lobby and the weekly playlist offers some interesting new rules and conditions for a break from regular play.
