Yesterday, WhatsApp pushed the latest version of its messaging application on iOS, WhatsApp version 2.16.16, allowing Apple iPhone users to share and receive GIFs, including Live Photos and shorter video, which can be easily converted to GIFs.

According to the app update text in App Store, for videos the clip needs to be six seconds or shorter to be send as animated GIFs. Additionally, iPhone the update now allows users to send a Live Photo as a GIF by using 3D Touch feature from the ‘Attach’—Photo/Video Library option, available on the bottom left corner of the WhatsApp messaging application. The ‘Attach’ option is indicated using a ‘+’ sign in WhatsApp.

Inside the ‘Attach’, tap on to the Photo/Video Library option and select GIF search button featuring on the bottom left to get started. Though you can send GIFs from your iPhone, WhatsApp is also providing Giphy or Tenor powered GIF search engines integrated within the app.

WhatsApp is also giving iPhone users to edit the GIF after selecting them. Users can trim it, rotate it and add text or emoji in it, before sending. In addition, users can star mark some GIFs which they like and prefer to use again in future.

The update is only limited to iOS customers, and is not yet available to Android users. However, it the update is expected to be rolled out to Android platforms soon.
