Apara Mehta to play dadi on Brahmarakshas
After portraying Savita in the long-running show, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, successfully, Apara Mehta, is collaborating with Balaji once again. This time, she will be playing Jassi Dadi in the weekend thriller Brahmarakshas. So involved is the senior actress with the show already that she happens to come up with her own lines while enacting her scenes on the show. To her surprise, the production house has decided to retain them as her punch lines. “It’s a glamorous role,” says Apara. “I’m not playing a typical dadi. I haven’t become a dadi or nani so far in real life. While delivering the dialogues I candidly coined my own lines ‘Dadi kisi angle se nahi lagti hoon..Tere se thodisi toh badi hoon’ (I don’t look like a dadi. I’m barely a few years older than you). The producers and even my co-stars liked it so much that they let me keep mouthing these lines!”
What made Apara take up this particular role, considering the actress has played a grandmother umpteen times on the screen “I have been doing TV for a long time. I’ve seen it change in various ways. When rural shows started ruling the space I thought I would never be able to look like a gareeb or bechari. So, I shifted to comedy and then came back to normal daily shows. I have a strong bond with Balaji. I was very clear I didn’t want to play an old woman sporting chandan ki mala. The fact that it is a finite series was music to my ears and I took it up,” shares Apara.
