A new show, Girls On Top, will take you through the journey of three girls Isha, Gia and Revati struggling to survive and make it big in Mumbai.

MTV Girls on Top is a new series that has brought a relatively new concept to Indian television. The story revolves around three head-strong girls from different cities as they try to make it big in the city of dreams, Mumbai. The series will take you through their life, ambitions and relationships. It’s a fresh cast that includes Ayesha Adlakha, Barkha Singh and Saloni Chopra.

Saloni Singh, who plays Isha Jaisingh, a TV producer, says, “I play a young girl from Delhi who comes to Mumbai to be a TV producer. Essaying this role was slightly nerve-wrecking but fun — it has been challenging but worth it. And it’s great the show is coming out around Women’s Day because it is about ambitious women, which embodies the spirit of the day.”

Barkha’s character, Gia Sen, is an aspiring novelist stuck in tabloid journalism. “Gia hates actors and has no sources, but she is extremely resourceful and you’ll see her grow. She’s cynical about love and also is obsessive about cleanliness which I completely relate to,” laughs Barkha.

Revati, played by Ayesha Adlakha, is a different character altogether. Some would call her the baby of the group. “Rev wants to be an electronic music DJ and she has two extreme sides of her. She hates it when women are treated as objects and stands up for them without thinking twice. She’s a loyal friend and extremely ambitious — I relate to her on that front,” says Ayesha, who worked as a sales executive, before shifting to acting.

She also thinks we’ll get to see the chemistry the girls share on Girls on Top, “We get along like a house on fire. We eat together and sleep together. I’m very lucky to have them as co-stars. Just recently, we decided on a whim to attend a music festival together! They’re all great fun and we get to play best friends on the show too.” Let’s hope this trio rubs off on Indian television and we see a shift from the damsel-in-distress to woman-in-charge!
