Samir Sharma, famous for his role as Nitin in Dil Kya Chahta Hai, got a chance to fulfill his long-standing wish of working with Imtiaz Ali. The actor, who has small role in Tamasha, recalls how he got the opportunity. “I kept going to Mukesh Chhabra’s office for auditions and then one day I got a call saying that Imtiaz Ali has liked my audition and that he wants to meet me. First I thought, ‘he must hate me’, because unlike other aspirants, I was extremely quiet during the meeting — I was just listening to what he had to say to me. I was just overwhelmed that I was meeting Imtiaz. He spoke about the film and the role and then asked me if I would be interested in playing a character like that. I just said, ‘yes sir, I would be’.”
Samir didn't hear from the team for three to four months. “And when I was least expecting it, I got a call from the production team, asking for my dates,” he says. He started shooting a few days later and had to juggle the schedules with his daily show.
So would Samir like to quit television to do more films now, we ask. He says, “I have never looked upon films as different mediums. What matters to me is good roles. As long as I can juggle both, it’s fine.”
