Imran Khan appoints Lieutenant General Munir as new ISI chief

The Army’s media wing announced the appointment of General Munir as the new ISI chief.

Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday appointed Lieutenant General Asim Munir as the new director general of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

The Army’s media wing announced the appointment of General Munir as the new ISI chief.

General Munir was recently promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General, previously served as head of Military Intelligence (MI). He would take charge of his new role after the retirement of outgoing ISI chief Lt. General Naveed Mukhtar on October 25.

The statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) added that Lt. General Mohammed Adnan was appointed as the new vice-chief of the general staff.

The Army also assigned Lt. General Nadeem Zaki as commander of Mangla Corps, a primary strike formation of the Pakistan Army. The corps is also known as 1 Strike Corps and is one of the two primary strike corps.

Lt. General Shaheen Mazher was appointed as commander of the strategic Peshawar Corps, responsible for the tribal areas and the border with Afghanistan.

Three other officers were assigned to staff positions at the General Headquarters (GHQ). Lt. General Azhar Saleh Abbasi was appointed as chief of logistics staff, Lt. General Abdul Aziz as the new military secretary and Lt. General Waseem Ashraf as the Inspector General Arms.
