Islamabad: A Joint Investigation Team (JIT), formed by the Pakistan Supreme Court to probe the Panama leaks case, on Monday decided to seek records of Sharif family’s tax returns from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

Officials said the six-member team headed by Federal Investigation Agency’s additional director-general Wajid Zia is to write a letter to FBR asking for complete information of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s and his sons’ financial statements from 1985 to 2016.

Earlier, the JIT was informed by the election commission of Pakistan that Mr Sharif had no property abroad but he took Rs 20 crore from Hussain Nawaz in 2015 in the form of dollars and euros.

The cost of the Premier's Jati Umra residence was shown as Rs 40 lakh in the documents, while he declared as many as seven bank accounts under his name.

The investigation team is required to submit a progress report after every two weeks to the apex court. It is expected to complete the probe within two months.
