Pakistan shares Kartarpur pact draft with India

Khan had inaugurated the ground-breaking ceremony of the corridor on Nove-mber 28, 2018

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Monday shared the draft agreement on the Kartarpur Corridor with India.

A foreign ministry statement said: “In line with Prime Min-ister Imran Khan’s commitment to open the Kartarpur Corridor on the occasion of the 550th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak in November, 2019, the Government of Pakistan has shared the draft agreement between the government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the government of the Republic of In-dia for facilitation of (Indian) Sikh Yatrees to visit the guru-dwar-a, Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, Narowal, Pakistan with the government of India throu-gh the Indian High C-ommission in Islamabad.”

Pakistan has appointed director general, South Asia Dr Mohammed Faisal as the focal person on Pakistan’s side and requested that the government of India designate a focal person at its end. “The government of Pakis-tan also invited the government of India to urgently send a delegation to Islamabad to negotiate and fina-lise the agreement,” it said.

Mr Khan had inaugurated the ground-breaking ceremony of the corridor on Nove-mber 28, 2018. Paki-stan took this step to accommodate a longstanding request of the Sikh community.
