India lacks trust; time for cooperative solution: Chinese media on standoff

Chinese media urged India to pull back its troops immediately and unconditionally from Chinese territory.

Beijing: Days after mocking India in viral video amid military standoff between the two neighbouring countries, Chinese media on Sunday has asked India to lighten its tone to defuse the tensions at Doklam near Sikkim region.

As the military standoff that entered its third month last week, China’s state-run news agency, Xinhua in a Talk India video segment said, “Sober and cooperative solution is in need to tackle China-India border standoff at Doklam.”

However, despite asking New Delhi to take co-operative measures, Xinhua said, "the border issue shows a lack of strategic trust on the India's side."

The standoff began after India opposed construction of road by China at Doklam near Sikkim. Doklam plateau is a disputed tri-junction point between India-Bhutan-China basically belongs to Bhutan, but claimed by Beijing as its territory.

“Lack of trust issue, may lead to strategic myopia and it even hurt India’s own interest,” Chinese media said in a video. China’s road construction near Chicken’s Neck, which connects mainland India with its northeast region, is strategically worrisome to New Delhi.

Citing the similarities of oldest civilisations between both the countries, the Chinese media urged India to pull back its troops immediately and unconditionally from Chinese territory.

Similarly mentioning that both countries are not born rivals, the Xinhua said, “India should remain sober and guarded against any future poor judgement.”

It also said, “Co-existing harmoniously and peacefully only stands to benefit both countries combined 2.7 billion people. Any spiral into some kind of hostile rivalry could be disastrous."

Giving combine message to both the countries, the Chinese media said, “India and China need to nurture more solid trust between them. After all, there is more than enough room in Asia for the Chinese Dragon and the India Elephant to dance together.”

Meanhwile on Monday, Home Minister of India, Rajnath Singh said a solution to the ongoing standoff between India and China at Doklam would be found soon and hoped that Beijing would make a positive move in this regard.

Addressing a function of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in New Delhi, Rajnath Singh said, "There will be a solution soon and I am sure China will make a positive move."
