A ‘deli’cious surprise

Tucked away inside Shalimar Hotel in the bustling Kemp’s Corner, Yo!! Deli can be easily missed. The modest space, with three tables to boast of and peppy orange and yellow chairs, sprung quite a surprise with its sparse menu and quick service. The live salad counter and sandwich menu lets you choose your bread, fillings and sauces.

We ordered a Fiesta Chicken sandwich (Rs 169) in whole wheat bread, and opted for mayonnaise, Italian Pesto, spicy paprika and thousand island sauces.

The result was a healthy and light (somewhat messy) sandwich, with the desired sauces giving it the right punch. The chicken by itself is bland, so be sure its coated with the sauces in every bite.

The grilled Lemon Tuna Melt (Rs 169) in garlic bread and the same sauces was good too. The mustard sauce-laden, grilled Hot dog (Rs 90) with caramelised onions is a good option for a quick bite. These were washed down by the iced tea and cappuccino (among the few beverages available).

A plethora of desserts at The Bakerie in the Shalimar premises offer a perfect end to a swift meal. The Blueberry Cheesecake (Rs 120) is lusciously creamy and light, while the Jamaican Rum Cake (Rs 120) is dense, rich and sinful.

Yo!, as a non-fussy deli, is a great alternative to chain sandwich outlets that we’ve grown ever so bored of.
