New Delhi: The AICC organisation is all set for an overhaul. After a hiatus of almost two months the new Congress president Mrs Sonia Gandhi is inclined for a key changes to smoothen the workflow. The four key states where the incharges will be changed are Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat. In all these four states put together the Congress only won one seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Senior leaders from the Delhi Congress have already met Mrs Gandhi and urged her to change the incharge, P.C. Chacko. Last week in a high-level meeting of the party, Mr Chacko was ticked off by the leadership over the inaction of the state unit on several issues. This includes the recent standoff in the national capital over the Ravidas temple. The state unit was found missing in action. He has also had a running battle with the former state unit chief late Mrs Sheila Dikshit. In Madhya Pradesh, Deepak Babaria is not able to take the faction-ridden state unit along.

Insiders claim that he has also started interfering in the functioning of the state government that is a cause of confusion between the government and the party. While Rajeev Satav, who is incharge of Gujarat, hails from Maharashtra and with the Assembly elections in Maharashtra soon, he is going to be involved in the election campaign. Rajni Patil, incharge of Himachal Pradesh, also hails from Maharashtra and will be involved in the campaign. Besides this, there have been issues in the Himachal Pradesh state unit that need urgent attention.

Presently, the post of general secretary Uttar Pradesh West is also vacant as Jyotiraditya Scindhia resigned after the Lok Sabha election debacle. Sources say that the high command is also mulling over the idea of “one person one post”. If the proposal is implemented then general secretary incharge of Haryana Ghulam Nabi Azad and Karnataka K.C. Venugopal will also be replaced as they are Leader of Opposition and general secretary organisation respectively.
