The Sensex closed at 40051.87 gaining 220.03 points or 0.55 per cent, the gains came after over 1.4 per cent gain on Tuesday, as reports of tax rationalisation on securities transactions and better festivals season sales for autos and retailers were getting stronger.

Overall trend remains positive

The broader market also gained with BSE Mid Cap Index up 0.65 per cent and BSE Small Cap Index up 0.36 per cent.

The Sensex on Wednesday regained the 40000 level after a gap of more than four months. Gaining for the fourth consecutive session, the index closed at 40051.87, up 220.03 points.

Sensex crosses 40,000 mark again

The Sensex had made huge gains in May-June following the NDA victory and touched a high of 40312.07 on June 4, 2019.

Positive domestic and global cues led to huge rally in the market as it opened after a long weekend, The Sensex gained 1.48 per cent, or 581.64 points, closing at 39,831.84. The Nifty-50 gained 159.7 points, or 1.37 per cent, to close at 11,786.85.

Nifty finally crosses a stubborn hurdle

The broader market too rallied with the BSE Mid Cap Index up 1.12 per cent and BSE Small Cap Index up 0.55 per cent.

Muhurat trade points to positive moves

Yes Bank was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, followed by SBI which rallied 7.19 per cent after the lender reported a nearly six-fold jump in its consolidated net profit for the second quarter ended September.
