In a story straight out of the Bollywood movie Cheeni Kum, the 64-year-old founder-director of a college fell in love with and married his 27-year-old student in Bengaluru.

Except that unlike the fairytale Bollywood ending where the ageing Amitabh Bachchan gets his girl, the Bengaluru couple were nearly thrashed within an inch of their lives and had to flee the marriage registrar’s office.

The parents and relatives of Krupa Prajapati, made a beeline for the Rajarajeshwari Nagar sub-registrar’s office when they got to know that she and her husband, Akash K. Rose, would be arriving to collect their marriage certificate.

Dr Rose, the founder-director of the National Institute of Creative Communication in Hennur Gardens, had married Ms Prajapati two months ago. Ms Prajapati claimed that she informed her father Hassanmukh Prajapati about the relationship, but he opposed it.

She justified her marriage to Dr Rose, saying that she was always a neglected child to her parents, who pampered her brothers. She said that she found solace in Dr Rose and chose him to be her life partner. On Friday, beaten up by Ms Prajapati’s angry relatives, the couple fled, without their marriage certificate.
