A joyride in an Audi to celebrate a friend’s joining party landed an all-women trio, including the drunk techie at the wheel, in prison on Saturday, after the vehicle knocked down a 45-year-old carpenter near Taramani signal on Rajiv Gandhi Salai here.

The three continued driving towards Thuraipakkam after the car knocked down the pedestrian, Munusamy, who was waiting to cross the road around 4.30 am.

Munusamy was tossed about 15 feet in the air and died instantly. His colleagues standing across the road chased the car for some distance and forced them to stop the vehicle near SRP Tools junction on Old Mahabalipuram Road with the help of another van which was going on the same route.

Aishwarya, (26), resident of Chetpet, working in an IT firm at Porur, was identified as driving the vehicle, and other two were identified as Sonia Jain, and Sushma. Of the latter two, one is a techie while the other is pursuing her Ph.D.

They were booked for causing death by negligence and rash driving and Aishwarya was remanded to judicial custody.

The trio were out for a joyride after attending a friend’s joining party when the mishap occurred. They were booked under 304 A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving) IPC and Aishwarya was remanded to judicial custody.

Preliminary investigation suggest that the car must have done over 100 kmph The complaint was lodged by Saravanan, who was just metres away from Munusamy when the accident occurred.

The deceased is survived by his son, Anandan (16), daughter, Divya,(11) and wife Govindammal. He is the lone breadwinner.
