Bhubaneswar: A group of around 15 monkeys refused to budge after one of its youngest members was trapped in a net laid out atop a building to ward off the rogues in Odisha’s Nimapara town in Puri district.

They left the place only after the baby was successfully rescued and handed over to them by the local people, reports said on Saturday.

According to reports, Kashinath Behera, a resident of the Nimapara, nearly 50 km from here, had put nylon net around a television antenna to protect it from damage as monkeys often break the outdoor signal reception unit when they land on it during their quest for food.

Worried of the infant’s fate, the mother monkey and other members of the team gathered there and guarded the young till it was freed from the trouble after an arduous 15-hour rescue mission.

It took much time to release the baby monkey from the net as the locals couldn’t dare to free it as the elders were furious. Finally, a rescue team of forest department was called in.

After a struggle of nearly 15 hours, the forest officials disentangled the baby monkey.

During the rescue mission, the forest officials offered fruits to the furious mother monkey to divert her attention. How-ever, she was clever enou-gh not to fall into the trap.
