New Delhi: The Delhi police has arrested a constable in connection with alleged financial irregularities amounting to lakhs of rupees.

The police said that the accused constable, Anil Kumar, who was posted in the accounts department of Delhi’s Outer district, has misappropriated the house rent allowance (HRA) arrears of 24 constables to the tune of Rs 19.44 lakh by getting the same transferred to the bank accounts of his wife through ECS (electronic clearing service) instructions to Axis Bank in this regard.

According to a senior police official, the economic Offences Wing (EOW) had received several complaints of corruption at the office of the deputy commissioner of police (DCP) of Outer Delhi for quite some time. Following this, three to four EOW teams raided the accounts section of the DCP office on Tuesday afternoon leading to a pandemonium.

“A case under Sections 420,409, and 120 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at the EOW police station and accused constable Anil Kumar has been arrested. The vigilance department has also been taken on board to investigate the case,” said the police official.

“During interrogation, Anil Kumar, a resident of village Mukandpur in district Jhajjar of Haryana, revealed that he was involved in the loot of the arrears of his own colleagues. He siphoned off about Rs 20 lakh of the arrears of some 24 policemen. The arrested policeman got the loot money deposited in the private bank account of his wife,” said a police official.
