Veteran businessman Basant Kumar Birla passes away at 92

Mumbai: Basant Kumar Birla the patriarch of Birla group died on Wednesday in Mumbai. He was 98 years old. Birla was born on 12 January 1921.

The industry veteran was the chairman of BK Birla Institute of Engineering and Technology (BKBIET), Krishnarpan Charity Trust among other educational trusts and institutes.

As the youngest son of industrialist and philanthropist Ghanshyam Das Birla at a young age of 15, he began to partner with a number of companies.

Afterwards, Basant Kumar Birla became the chairman of Kesoram Industries.

Birla’s daughters Jayshree Mohta and Manjushree Khaitan survive him.
